Praia do Francês was a region inhabited by the Caetés Indians during the colonial period, the natural inhabitants of Pindorama, the Land of Palms.
Due to its strategic natural cove, Praia do Francês served as a refuge for French pirate ships, which carried out the exploration of Pau Brasil, which was abundant in the vast Atlantic Forest of the colonial period.
Hence the origin of the name, originally called Porto dos Franceses, derived for Praia dos Franceses to the current Praia do Francês.
Some conflicts existed between the Indians and the invaders, later between the French, Dutch and Portuguese in disputes over property and territory.
