Canela is a city in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, separated from Gramado by the Quilombo Valley. The name Cinnamon comes from "caneleira", a typical tree of the area.
Canela and Gramado, together form an important tourist pole of the region and the country.
The city is famous as a base for practicing ecotourism activities.
The Caracol State Park is a must, where the famous Caracol waterfall with a 131-meter drop and the Parque da Ferradura are located.
In the city we find one of the most important cathedrals in the region, whose patron saint is Our Lady of Lourdes, made of basalt in the English Gothic style. It is known as the "Stone Church".
Another place to visit is the "Castillito", a house from the beginning of the 20th century built in a typical European style, where there is a museum and a confectionery where Apfelstrudel is served accompanied by chamomile tea.
