Barreirinhas is a city located in the Brazilian state of Maranhão, in the northeast region of the country.
It is located about 260 kilometers from the state capital, São Luís, and is part of the region known as Lençóis Maranhenses.
Barreirinhas is located on the banks of the Preguiças River and is the gateway to the Lençóis Maranhenses National Park, an impressive region of white sand dunes and crystalline lagoons that attracts tourists from all over the world.
The city is also known for its historic center and its beaches.
