Camboriu is located in the state of Santa Catarina, with 63,000 inhabitants in a total area of 214 km ².
The town was founded by Portuguese settlers originating from the Azores, and was separated from Itajaí on 5 April 1884.
In 1964 Camboriu littoral portion was emancipated, and became the city of Balneario Camboriu.
