Visconde de Mauá is located in the mountainous region of Serra da Mantiqueira, in the state of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

The region is divided into three districts: Maringá, Maromba and Visconde de Mauá, and is known for its natural beauty and its cool and pleasant climate throughout the year.
It is located about 200 kilometers from the city of Rio de Janeiro and about 300 kilometers from São Paulo.
