Vila Velha is a historic city located in the state of Espírito Santo in Brazil.
Founded in 1535 by the Portuguese, it was the second oldest city in the state after the capital, Vitória.
During colonial times, the city was of great importance as a port and slave trade center.
Currently, Vila Velha is known for its historical and cultural heritage, which includes the Church of the Convent of Our Lady of Penha, the Fort of San Francisco Javier, the Convent of San Antonio and the Church of Our Lady of Victory, among other tourist attractions.
It is also famous for its beautiful beaches, such as Praia da Costa and Praia de Itapoã, which attract national and international tourists throughout the year.
