Teresópolis is a city located in the state of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It was founded in 1891 and named after Empress Teresa Cristina, wife of Pedro II, the last emperor of Brazil.
Over the years, Teresópolis has become an important tourist center due to its cool climate and its beautiful natural landscapes, such as the Serra dos Órgãos and the Pedra do Sino.
In January 2011, the city suffered a tragedy when heavy rain caused a landslide that killed more than 900 people and caused significant damage to the city.
Since then, the city has worked to rebuild itself and improve its infrastructure to prevent future natural disasters.
