Saquarema is a city located in the state of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Its history dates back to pre-colonial times, when the region was inhabited by the Tamoios Indians. In 1555, the French arrived in the area and founded a colony called "La Francia Antártica", but shortly after they were expelled by the Portuguese.
In the 17th century, the region was settled by slaves and missionaries who built the first Catholic church in the area.
During the 19th century, Saquarema became an important center for the production of sugar cane and coffee.
In the 1960s, the city began to develop its tourism, thanks to its beautiful beaches and its proximity to Rio de Janeiro.
Today, Saquarema is known for its beautiful coastline, where you can practice water sports such as surfing and windsurfing.
It's also a popular destination for ecotourism, with trails and waterfalls nearby.
