The history of Nova Friburgo begins in the 19th century, when a group of Swiss came to Brazil in search of new land to cultivate.
In the year 1819, they established the colony of Nova Friburgo in the mountains of the Sierra de Rio de Janeiro, in the state of Rio de Janeiro.
The region developed rapidly and in the year 1890 it became a city.
During the 20th century, Nova Friburgo became a center of textile production and today it is known for its fashion production and tourism industry.
