Arraial do Cabo is located in the state of Rio de Janeiro, in a region called Região dos Lagos.
It is a coastal city, founded in 1965, after the emancipation of Cabo Frio.
Arraial do Cabo is bordered to the north by the municipality of Cabo Frio, to the east and south by the Atlantic Ocean, and to the west by the municipality of Araruama.
The climate of Arraial do Cabo is tropical coastal, with a lot of wind that stabilizes the temperatures.
The Massambaba sandbank is an area preserved by IBAMA, it is a narrow piece of land, bordered to the south by the Atlantic Ocean and to the north by the Araruama Lagoon, where the most exotic orchids in the world are found.
The main beaches of Arraial Do Cabo are: As Prainhas (also known as Prainhas do Pontal do Atalaia), Anjos, Brava, Farol (located on Isla do Farol), Forno, Grande, Prainha, Pontal, Graçainha, Praia de Monte Alto.
