Porto Velho is a city in the state of Rondonia, in northern Brazil, located on the banks of the Madeira River.
It was founded in 1914 during the construction of the Madeira-Mamoré Railway and is known for its historical and cultural heritage.
The city has several parks and green areas, such as the Porto Velho Municipal Natural Park and the Bosque dos Pioneiros Ecological Park, and is a common base for excursions to the Amazon jungle.
