Palmas is the capital of the state of Tocantins in Brazil, located in the geographic center of the country.
It was founded in 1989, becoming the newest Brazilian capital city. With a population of around 300,000 inhabitants, it is a modern city that stands out for its wide avenues, parks and green areas.
Among its main attractions are Parque Cesamar, a large urban park that has paths for walking, bicycle tracks, lakes and an open-air theater; the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Conception, a modern church with distinctive architecture; and the Araguaia Palace, the seat of the state government.
It is also possible to visit the Luis Carlos Prestes Memorial, a museum dedicated to the Brazilian communist leader; the Jalapão State Park, a protected area of great natural beauty; and Playa da Graciosa, a river beach on the Tocantins River.
To get to Palmas, you can take a flight to Palmas International Airport - Brigadeiro Lysias Rodrigues, which receives flights from several Brazilian cities. It is also possible to arrive by bus from nearby cities such as Goiânia and Brasília.
