History of Campo Grande

The history of Campo Grande dates back to the 19th century, when it began to develop as a small town in the center of Brazil.

The region was originally inhabited by indigenous people, but from the 1870s it began to receive European immigrants, mainly from Italy and Germany, who settled in the area.

In the year 1899, the town of Campo Grande was officially founded, which at that time was part of the state of São Paulo. During the first decades of the 20th century, the region's economy was based on cattle ranching and agriculture, and the city grew slowly.

In the year 1977, Campo Grande became the capital of the new state of Mato Grosso do Sul, which was created after the division of the old state of Mato Grosso. With this new condition, the city experienced significant economic and demographic growth, becoming an important regional center.

Today, Campo Grande is a modern and prosperous city with a diverse economy based on agriculture, livestock, commerce and services. In addition, the city is an important tourist destination in the central-west region of Brazil, thanks to its rich history, its culture and its natural beauty.
