Brasilia is the capital of Brazil and is located in the center of the country, in the Federal District region.
It is located about 1,000 km north of Sao Paulo and about 1,200 km west of Rio de Janeiro.
The city was designed by the architect Oscar Niemeyer and the urban planner Lúcio Costa in 1956 and became the federal capital of Brazil in 1960.
Brasilia is a planned city with unique modernist architecture and has become an important political, economic and cultural center of Brazil.
