The city of Belém (in Portuguese) or Belén (in Spanish) is the capital of the Brazilian state of Pará.
It has a population of 1,500,000 inhabitants, it is the gateway to northern Brazil, and the entry point to discover and explore the Amazon.
Belém is among the 10 largest and most influential cities in Brazil, with a Portuguese origin.
Founded in 1616 with the construction of Forte do Presepio, today called Forte Castelo. Its location was strategic to control navigation in the region.
It is a vibrant and colorful city with a rich history and culture. Among its tourist attractions are the Ver-o-Peso Market, Batista Campos Square, the Emilio Goeldi Museum, the Basilica of Our Lady of Nazareth and the Forte do Presépio. The local gastronomy is another of the great attractions, especially the famous fish dish called "Tacacá".
In addition, Belém is an important economic and commercial center of the Amazon region.
